Point Defiance Park Engagement Photography

Point Defiance Park Engagement Photography - this was my first engagement photography shoot since moving to Tacoma, Washington 2 months ago. It was cold out! Quite a change from Los Angeles. Hala and Hayden still managed to keep each other warm in the chilly weather though and we had a lot of fun! We did their engagement session on the Tacoma waterfront and in Point Defiance Park, which is absolutely gorgeous.

I usually like to start my sessions with my long lens and a little bit of movement so the couple has time to warm up to me and the camera. I love it when couples are able to interact with each other without me directing everything. The shots end up looking more natural, and that is exactly what these two did. I couldn't keep them apart!

I do my best to encourage fun and playfulness during my engagement shoots. I still pose couples, but I want them to be silly and laugh with each other like I'm not there. What a gorgeous smile! Stunning.

I incorporate a lot of symmetry in my photographs, but sometimes my favorite pictures are the ones where the angle is slightly off to the side or from a unique angle. For this picture I liked how the light was coming through the leaves and I wanted to bring some of that warm soft light into the frame.

I love that they brought something that was personal and unique to them and their relationship like this glass heart. I think that's so cool when couples do that.

We're really looking forward to shooting this wedding next summer at Annie Wright Academy in Tacoma.
